Traditionally used in restoration and conservation work, lime mortar provides an alternative option to standard mortars. It simply requires the addition of cement and water on site to produce a useable mortar.
Lime mortar is renowned for its porous and permeable properties. It has the capacity to reduce the risk of trapped moisture and damage by enabling the building to breathe.
Lime mortar also possesses crack-healing properties via a process known as autogenous healing. Buildings are naturally subject to movement over time and if small hairline cracks appear, this ‘self-healing’ process ensures that water penetration dissolves the lime and when that water evaporates, deposited lime begins to heal the cracks.
Marshalls' Limesand Mortar is manufactured to meet the latest British Standards specifications and can be supplied in a variety of ratios and colours.
