How to throw the perfect BBQ party
Think ahead a few months… The weather’s gorgeous, you’ve invited friends and family over, and your garden is looking amazing. Throwing a BBQ party is a summertime tradition, but what can you do to make sure each detail is perfection and everybody, young and old, has a fantastic time? Here are our favourite tips for hosting a fabulously fun and stylish soiree that your loved ones will enjoy and remember forever.
Prepare your patio
A brilliant party begins with a brilliant outdoor space. Now is the time to start preparing yours and, this year, patios are big news. Start your patio story underfoot with quality paving in natural stone, stunning sandstone or modern granite. Or, you may want to achieve a rustic look. Create a welcoming seating area by teaming large pebbled edging with chunky, warm railway sleepers, where guests can drink cold beers and nibble snacks as they catch up.
Surround your guests with beauty
As well as filling your garden with wonderful plants and flowers, you can also add beauty to your party using the textures and colours of comfy soft furnishings. Vibrant throws and blankets will be welcomed as the air turns cooler, and squidgy cushions will protect bottoms from hard surfaces. Thick scented candles protected in windproof lanterns will lend their sweet perfume to proceedings. Meanwhile, the sound and aesthetic of water running through a pretty rockery will relax your guests almost a fast as a glass of prosecco. And don’t forget to string up some eye-catching fairylights for when the sun sets and the party really gets going!
Eating outdoors is always a pleasure and today’s alfresco cooks have a wonderful array of US-style BBQs and built-in kitchens to choose from. Charcoal BBQs, pizza ovens and rotisseries, generous food preparation areas, brick-built, concrete or timber bases… When it comes to outdoor food preparation, things have certainly moved on and your guests are bound to be impressed with your ‘indoors outdoors’ kitchen, as well as the delicious dishes that emerge from it.
Your choice of furniture will help create the right ambience for your own unique brand of party. Will you go for Tuscan-style wrought iron pieces and immaculate place settings for a more formal air? Or, maybe outdoor beanbags in bold prints with clashing floor cushions scattered around are more your personal style? For some, an arbor complete with tendrils of honeysuckle growing up its sides is the perfect finishing touch for a BBQ enjoyed in English countryside style.
In the UK, rain is always a distinct possibility, but it should never be a reason not to have fun. Instead, prepare for a downpour. Depending on the size and shape of your garden, a gazebo could be a sound investment. Looked after, a quality gazebo will last for decades to come, allowing all your alfresco parties to go on, rain or shine.
By now you’re probably feeling quite inspired and eagerly anticipating hosting your neigbourhood’s best ever summer BBQ party. All it takes is a little preparation and some creative flair and you’ll soon be entertaining like a pro!
