Realising the ‘Dream Garden’
With the sun finally emerging from behind the clouds and the long warm evenings drawing you outside, your thoughts may be drawn to what you really want from your garden space. But where do you start?
There are many things to consider when creating your outdoor living space; how to make the most of the available space; which products to use and so on. Marshalls plc, as the leading manufacturer of innovative landscape products, aims to make the transformation process as simple as possible by providing the inspiration and expert advice to help you create your dream garden or driveway.
With gardening and garden design in general becoming more popular than ever, there is an abundance of opportunities to find inspiration. Leading garden and home interest magazines are crammed with beautiful garden ideas, tips and advice. There’s also number of garden design TV programmes running on satellite TV, there are the numerous flower shows especially the RHS run evens featuring designer gardens, many of which Marshalls regularly contribute to.
So what is right for you? Every garden is different and everyone had different tastes so it’s important to choose a design that is suited to you and your lifestyle.
Sven Wombwell, TV presenter & garden designer comments on the importance of getting the initial design right:
“My garden is the perfect example of a space designed to suit a ‘lifestyle’. Due to my job I am away regularly, doing other people’s gardens! So, I went for a garden with key some key thinking in mind. Firstly, it had to be easy with little maintenance needs. Secondly, child friendly and thirdly it has a modern feel. ”
Think about what ‘look’ you are intending to create when it comes to choosing paving materials. Paving flags are an ideal choice for paths, patios and utility areas throughout the garden but are not suitable for driveways or areas subject to heavy loadings, such as cars. For this purpose, block paving is recommended and this can also be used for paths, patios and edge details to stunning effect.
For garden patio use, paving styles fall into three broad groups:
Contemporary Paving such as Marshalls Haworth Moor Sawn, Argent and Eclipse, Natural Slate paving ranges.
Traditional Paving such as Marshalls Haworth Moor Riven, Polesden Lacy, Lacock Abbey, Heritage and Chancery ranges.
Complimentary Paving including Marshalls Saxon, Firedstone and Perfecta
Some homeowners may feel quite competent to create their own dream design but, should you require a helping hand, Marshalls has a garden design service to help you make the most out of your garden or driveway.
The service gives you access to Marshalls award winning designers and offers inspirational design and a professional planning service tailored to suit your needs and budget.
If you do fancy doing it yourself Marshalls has created a revolutionary new garden design software aid. This can be accessed at www.marshalls.co.uk/gv.
It is easy to use and enables you to create a unique design for your own garden. Simply follow the on screen and verbal instructions and upload your own digital photo of your house then let your imagination run wild as you create your own design that can include: walling, patios, paths, edging, summer houses, green houses and a range of planting. Then you can ‘walk through’ your stunning 3D quality garden so you can see your design come to life and your garden transformed. You can then email your design to Marshalls to see how we can help manage your project, including managing the whole project for you, or advice on stockists or finding an approved installer. All you need is a broadband internet connection.
A Professional Installation:
If you don’t feel confident enough to install your own design, Marshalls recommend you employ the services of a professional contractor, ideally a member of Marshalls’ Register of Approved Contractors and Installers. Since its launch, ‘the Register’, has grown and now includes an established network of skilled and reputable contractors from around the UK who have undergone strict vetting procedures. It has also gained enormous respect within the industry from its peers and homeowners alike who have employed their skills.
Significantly, all Register members are able to provide homeowners with a unique, 10-year product and five year labour guarantee. In an age where some people may pass themselves off as professional tradesmen the Marshalls’ Register offers customers’ total peace of mind. Meaning you can relax and enjoy the dream garden you have created.
