Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems – Priora, Tegula Priora & Grassguard
In built up environments, approximately 95% of rainfall is making its way directly into the drains and straight to the watercourse, placing huge pressures on the drainage systems. Devastating floods this summer in the UK are testament to the potential catastrophic consequences of drainage systems overrun. Marshalls is seeking to help address this issue in residential environments by introducing the new Priora, Tegula Priora and Grassguard ranges.
The unique patented nib design of the Priora & Tegula Priora block creates voids at the joints allowing surface water to pass naturally through into a specially calculated sub-base without compromising the integrity of the driveway while significantly reducing the risk of pollution and flooding in the sewer systems.
Grassgaurd is an innovative, sustainable alternative to traditional concrete block paving from Marshalls. Grassguard has an open grid pattern that allows grass to grow through the blocks giving a “green” option for driveways and hardstanding areas in front gardens. Ideal for that second car parking space it doubles as a lawn when not in use and the Grass can be cut and maintained as a conventional lawn hiding the concrete. The grid pattern enables water to drain through the grass into the ground rather than in to drains. Root growth binds the slabs and the base materials together progressively improving their load carrying capability and providing the structure with its strength.
