Marshalls, the UK’s leading hard landscaping manufacturer, recently celebrated excellence in hard landscaping design and installation at its inaugural Marshalls Register Awards 2008.
Covering a range of categories from ‘Best Project by a New Marshalls Register Member’ to ‘Best Use of Marshalls Ethically Sourced Haworth Moor Sandstone’, the awards attracted several hundred project submissions from its 1000 strong associated Member companies from all around the UK.
The top accolade was to be crowned ‘Marshalls Register Contractor of the Year 2008’ with the prize of a brand new Toyota Hilux Double Cab. In a tense, but excitement driven atmosphere it was announced that Patrick Butler Landscapes from Kent, had taken the crown and the keys for his patio, paving and garden installation at a property in Canterbury. Patrick also received the ‘Best Patio Award’ on the day, which placed him in the running for the ultimate prize.
David Jessop, Operations Manager, Marshalls Register, said:
“I am thrilled for Patrick in receiving both these Awards. He and his team are an excellent example of the professionalism of service, design and installation you receive when choosing a Marshalls Register Member.
I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the other Register Members who won Awards, as well of those who submitted project entries. The standard of design and craftsmanship throughout was of the highest quality and made the job of judging a very difficult task indeed.”
Patrick Butler said:
“This Award is a real commendation of the work we do, not just on the winning project, but on all our schemes. I am absolutely delighted to have received this. The support and the idea of the Awards by Marshalls has been excellent and I would personally like to thank them for this opportunity to showcase our work and choosing Patrick Butler Landscapes as their Register Contractor of the Year 2008.”
The winning companies and awards were as follows:
Marshalls Register Contractor of the Year
Patrick Butler Landscapes, Kent
Best Project by a New Marshalls Register Member
Q: Gardens & Developments, Derbyshire
Best Use of a New Marshalls Product
Capel Groundworks, Kent
Driveway Design, Scotland
Most Creative Use of Marshalls Products
Jackson's Landscape Design, Devon
Best Permeable Driveway
NAC Paving, London
Patrick Butler Landscapes, Kent
Best Use of Marshalls Ethically Sourced Haworth Moor Sandstone
Greenscene Garden Design, Tyne & Wear
Patrick Butler’s winning design was chosen by the judges as they felt it made the most of the site, capitalising on the spectacular views of open countryside beyond. The design also complemented the setting and the house providing a clear link between the property and the hard and soft landscaping.
The Awards were launched by Marshalls last spring to its Marshalls Register of Approved Landscape Contractors and Driveway Installers. Although they are not directly employed by Marshalls, they do abide by a strict code of installation practice and are regularly vetted by Marshalls’ assessors.
To reach the final, Marshalls held 12 regional events around the UK with 55 companies receiving Regional Awards. These were then pitched against each other to make the shortlist in the relevant categories for the final Awards presentation.
