Investors In People Success For Falkirk Manufacturer Marshalls

On July 6th Marshalls plc’s Falkirk Works was presented with an Investors in People award by Sir David Steel. Whilst Scottish manufacturing is enduring one of its most challenging periods, Marshalls at Falkirk are thriving. The secret to success has been its huge investment in its most valuable asset – its people.

As one of Scotland’s most famous political figures of recent years, Sir David Steel is the ideal candidate to present the award. His choice reflects the importance of this IIP Award not just for Marshalls at Falkirk but for Scottish business, reflecting on his support to this sector during his years in the political arena.

Marshalls is one of the few manufacturing firms nationally to have passed the IIP’s rigorous standards, having won the award following their first assessment, another rarity within IIP practice.

Whilst IIP has become an aspired goal for most companies within the service sector, manufacturing firms have often failed to show the same investment in its workforce. Over £6m has been invested into Marshalls Service Centre at Falkirk since 2000, a huge investment into Scottish manufacturing.

As significant as the award is for Scottish business the award is hugely important for the Falkirk area. Marshalls is a hugely important contributor to the Falkirk/Scottish economy and its’ unprecedented investment in its people has led to its recent success. This success has provided job security and a welcome boost to the areas’ economy.

Says Hugh Kinniburgh, Marshalls Regional Director:

“By creating a culture where employees are valued as vital assets of the business and where people are rewarded for their efforts, Marshalls in Falkirk has become a unique success story of Scottish manufacturing.”
