Local Children Get Safe New Playground
If the constant rain has been getting you down this summer, spare a thought for the children of Zig Zag Nursery, St Ives. With only a wet and muddy outside space for them to play in, the children have even been stuck indoors on the few sunny days we’ve had this year.
That is until the local manufacturing site of hard landscaping suppliers, Marshalls, came to their rescue by providing the materials and labour to transform the space into a safe and exciting outdoor play area.
The project, which began nearly six weeks ago, was carried out by Mark Crook and Tony Biddle of Marshalls, who donated 100 hours of labour – both during working hours and in their own time. With support from their colleagues, Tom Shortall and Dean Wallace, Mark and Tony moved more than seven tonnes of recycled aggregate to make the base for the playground, which was then covered with Marshalls Heritage paving flags to form a weather-proof play area.
The children and staff at Zig Zag are absolutely delighted with the new space and will definitely be making the most of any sunshine in their new playground. The nursery is so happy with the result that they are planning to hang a commemorative plaque later this year.
