RHS Chelsea Flower Show sponsor Marshalls plc today received a Silver Medal for its 2008 garden, The Marshalls Garden That Kids Really Want!

The garden was created by Ian Dexter, Marshalls in-house show garden designer, and inspired by over 120 school children’s drawings from the Marshalls Chelsea Garden Design Workshops. It aims to encourage kids to go outside and play, reconnecting them with the natural environment and helping them to develop valuable social skills.

Blending the excitement of risk through play within a managed setting, the garden presents testing personal challenges, limitless creative and learning opportunities plus the most important ingredient of all – fun.

Ian Dexter, commenting on the Medal said: “I am absolutely delighted with the result. This is my first ever RHS Chelsea Show Garden and to receive a silver medal is amazing. I would also to like to thank all the Marshalls Gardens & Driveways team who have worked relentlessly with me and behind the scenes to create this. This is a real team effort and I feel very proud of what we have all achieved.”

“I most especially want to thank all the children who took part in the workshops and have helped inspire this amazing playground. Their ideas and enthusiasm has been fantastic and spurred us on all the way through this project.”

“Further to this we have created the garden using a third less carbon than last year - when we used our garden to highlight the ethical issues of imported Indian sandstone. By utilising UK and European materials and minimising transport costs. After the show the garden will be recreated once again at one of the Marshalls Gardens & Driveways Display Centres in Enfield where visiting children can fully enjoy the space for years to come.”

Marshalls plc is the principal sponsor of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show for three years (2007-2009).
