Marshalls Assist in Summer School Success
Following an intense two weeks at the McCann Erickson Communications House Summer School, the winning team has been revealed as Team Innovatus who beat off competition from three other teams on the scheme.
Marshalls plc, the UK’s leading hard landscaping transformation company and one of the agency’s business to business clients provided the live brief for the students and the course culminated with them pitching their campaign to the client, McCann Erickson Communications House chief executive, Sue Little and a senior panel from the agency.
The team devised a campaign called “Working for You” where Marshalls always put their client first. Their pitch included creative concepts for direct mail and press advertising as well as a dedicated SMS and email campaign.
After a competitive selection process, 16 students were appointed to take part in Summer School giving them the chance to experience what life is like working with around 300 marketing specialists.
The students were based at Bonis Hall in Prestbury where they gained a real insight into agency life. The two week programme included learning about the different agency disciplines covering planning, digital, creative, PR and account management.
A dedicated website was setup, www.mechsummerschool.com where students were encouraged to write a daily blog on their experience, enabling friends and tutors to keep track of their progress and success.
Gareth Jones, Commercial Marketing Manager from Marshalls commented: “The quality of campaigns produced by the students was of an extremely high standard. We [Marshalls] are delighted to have taken part in the Summer School as I believe it’s an excellent initiative. The brief was a challenging one and the students have put all their energy in to their campaign. It was wonderful to get a fresh outlook on our brand from some of the industry’s rising stars.”
Nicola Stout, People Director at McCann Erickson Communications House added: “There has been a real buzz in the agency with the students here and we were delighted to be able to offer them such a great industry opportunity. The students’ enthusiasm and talent has been demonstrated through the quality of their work and a number of jobs and placements will be awarded to outstanding students in the coming weeks.”
