Marshalls Support Brings Medals Galore

Again this year Marshalls’ commitment at the 2009 RHS Chelsea Flower Show has extended above and beyond its prestigious principal sponsorship status.

Again this year Marshalls’ commitment at the 2009 RHS Chelsea Flower Show has extended above and beyond its prestigious principal show sponsorship status. As part of its continuing support to champion horticultural excellence, Marshalls has provided a range of products from its leading hard landscaping portfolio to a host of Show, Urban and Courtyard Gardens bringing them an abundance of Medals.

In the Show garden category both The QVC Garden designed by Adam Frost and Kay Yamada’s Echoes of Japan in an English Garden received product support from Marshalls to create two stunning settings.

Adam’s garden which tells a story of a re-kindled love for horticulture used Marshalls indigenous Cromwell Paving and received a Silver, whilst Kay’s celebration of the Treaty of Amity & Commerce between Japan and Britain used several ranges from Marshalls Decorative Aggregate portfolio and was awarded a Bronze.

Adam Frost said:

“The public’s reaction has been fantastic. They really appreciate and love the truthfulness of the space feeling they can take elements of the design into their own gardens, which to me is what Chelsea is all about. I would also personally like to thank Marshalls for their product support in helping me create this garden for Chelsea.”

In the Urban Garden category Sarah Eberle & Peter Dowle Plants & Gardens were able to create a trio of Credit Crunch gardens with the help of Marshalls’ paving and decorative aggregates; The Banker’s, The Artist’s and The Off-Shore Garden. All three gardens take a light hearted view to garden design with an innovative twist. These gardens received a Silver Gilt for The Banker’s Garden and Silver Medals for the other two exciting creations.

In the Grand Pavilion two Courtyard Gardens created another unique talking point. Birmingham City Council’s Credit Munch Garden offers the perfect incentive to get gardening. Incorporated in their design is Marshalls leading permeable paving, Priora, used to highlight the new front garden legislation.

Mike Hinton, Birmingham City Council’s Designer and employee, said on winning his Silver Gilt Medal:

“What we have done is create an environmentally friendly front garden that people could easily do themselves. We are thrilled with our Silver Gilt and would also like to thank Marshalls for their support to help make people more aware of the new front garden legislation in an inspiring way.”

On Ranelagh School’s Learning To Grow Garden Marshalls provided their innovative PlayPave safety paving - a unique, easy to maintain hybrid paving with a rubber top surface with concrete backing. For the display Marshalls also created a bespoke paver containing the school’s emblem. This was incorporated to demonstrate Marshalls bespoke graphics service which it offers on this product range.

Teacher Alison Moore, garden club leader at Ranelagh School, Berkshire, said:

“We are delighted to have received a Silver Medal and all day we have been inundated by enquiries from Primary School teachers about the unique paving PlayPave, to the sky high runner bean St George.”

Finally, helping visitors keep a firm footing on the Trade Stands both UK Horticulture and Mike Adams Antiques have benefited from product donations from Marshalls to create eye catching displays with donations of Chancery paving.

The support forms part of Marshalls Campaign For Better Landscapes which calls for both public and private bodies, as well as individuals, to seriously consider the societal and individual benefits of creating ‘better landscapes’ in our towns, cities, public spaces and our private gardens. The campaign urges us all to take positive action by engaging with the social, economic and environmental benefits and to make purchasing decisions which deliver these benefits.
