Marshalls is sponsoring a large garden at next years Chelsea Flower Show. The Marshalls Sustainability Garden has been designed to appeal to the UK’s “conscience consumer” - consumers who increasingly put sustainability, climate change and ethical and social values at the forefront of their purchasing decisions. The garden will show that there is no need to sacrifice style in the pursuit of an environmentally aware domestic garden.
The show garden has been designed by Scenic Blue and incorporates a number of key “sustainable living” solutions which include the recycling of “grey” water from the house through reed bed filters for irrigation purposes; the production of power via solar panelled sculptures; the planting of fruit, vegetables and flowers as a food source and wildlife habitat and the ingenious use of recycled materials throughout the garden to evolve a range of highly inspirational, innovative features.
A cedar studio building will be housed beneath an earth, rubble mound providing a multi use space, along with an unusually shaped irrigation pool, combined to create two strong focal points for this ultra modern outdoor room. The boundary walls to the garden will be constructed from recycled scaffolding boards and the recycling theme is continued by the inclusion of gabbions filled with stone rubble to create the retaining walls for the mound and studio building.
A neatly screened composting area featuring attractive bins for both plant and domestic bio-degradable waste provides a further subtle reminder of the garden’s commitment to sound environmental practice. The dramatic lighting for the garden will be powered by the striking solar sculpture structures (which also offers a useful energy resource for other applications), providing the perfect finishing touch to this modern garden
