Marshalls Natural Stone, the UK’s leading natural stone processor and supplier to the construction and landscaping markets, has secured a significant order in the region of £950,000 to supply its granite paving, setts and channelling for three main streets in the heart of Liverpool city centre. The contract forms part of the City’s extensive development strategy in preparation for it to being the European Capital of Culture in 2008.
The three streets to be resurfaced under this development are Church Street, Lord Street and Whitechapel covering an area of over 12 000 square metres.
For the scheme Marshalls will supply its unique ‘Liverpool blend’ of colours comprising Silver Grey, Mid Grey, Black and Green natural granite products with a flamed finished top surface. This finish and combination of colours was first developed and installed when the company secured the contract to supply material for the regeneration of the world famous Cavern Quarter in 2005. Winning this order now encases the Quarter district and gives this area of the City a pleasing continuity as people pass through it.
Securing the scheme was enhanced after Marshalls and principal contractor, Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering Ltd combined their expertise to form a natural partnership for the work. This lead to a focussed and rounded tender being submitted for the contract.
Work on the Lord St site has already commenced and will be completed mid 2007 when Whitechapel and Church St are also programmed to finish.
Marshalls Natural Stone has the UK’s most exciting and versatile ranges of natural stone hard landscaping materials available. Its quality, durability and aesthetics have led to its use on many prestigious schemes in the UK and overseas. These include Royal Festival Hall, London, the new Wembley Arena Piazza, Al Faisaliah Centre, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and the de Young Museum, San Francisco.
