The South Somerset District council invested £16.5 million into the Chard Regeneration Programme. Following research and guided suggestions made by local residents, the council and its partners developed an ambitious strategy to transform a derelict area of the town centre into a valuable and much-loved part of Chard. Marshalls is proud to have played a role in transforming the area in to something that will be close to the hearts of local people for many years to come.

The Chard Leisure Centre, designed by AHR, is the centrepiece of the ambitious regeneration project with the key aims of strengthening the local community and supporting the town’s ambitions to be increasingly self-sufficient. The new facility is at the heart of what will become a vibrant town centre destination and includes a swimming pool, gym and studios as well as a café and indoor soft play area.

The project was appointed to Churngold by the principle contractor, Speller Metcalfe. Marshalls supported Churngold in bringing the vision for the hard landscaping of the Grade II listed site to life including access roads, parking and pathways in a way that was sympathetic to the overall plans.

Our Modal Priora in a blend of Light Granite, Anthracite Granite and Mid Grey Granite was used for the paving, adding the ideal SuDS solution for the scheme while delivering a striking aesthetic that brings interest and a contemporary feel to the external space. This colour palette of the landscape contrasts perfectly with the brick building, with Conservation X steps and Tactile Hazard Warning paving also used to seamlessly connect the different paved levels of the project.

This phase of the regeneration scheme is now complete and in use by the local community who have helped to shape it.
