Overcoming challenges together

The Rochdale Town Hall project is the perfect example of how effective communication and collaboration between landscape experts and manufacturers can overcome challenges faced during significant redevelopment projects.

The scheme to restore and enhance the historic Rochdale Town Hall and its surrounding areas was led by Wright Landscapes and included meticulous landscaping, the use of high-quality materials, and the integration of modern amenities. Forming part of broader plans by Rochdale Borough Council to rejuvenate the wider town centre, the restoration needed to create a more attractive and functional space for residents and visitors whilst preserving the town hall's historical essence.

Adapting to the unforeseen

The partnership between Marshalls and Wright Landscapes was instrumental in overcoming significant project challenges. Our engineering team provided valuable advice and support throughout the scheme, particularly when unforeseen budget constraints necessitated a change in materials. By working together, our team ensured the project significantly exceeded expectations, resulting in a stunning and high-performing landscape for Rochdale Town Hall.

During the project, a portion of the budget had to be reallocated to unexpected roof repairs on the town hall, requiring Wright Landscapes to scale back other elements of the project. By working closely with our engineering team, Wright Landscapes opted for an alternative paving material, blending colours and sizes from our popular Modal X range. This British-made concrete paving product still achieved a high-quality finish and perfectly complemented our other natural stone detailing and furniture across the project.

Aligning product delivery with project timelines

Throughout the project, the town hall needed to remain open and accessible to the public and council. To achieve this, Wright Landscapes delivered the project in phases, incorporating intricate designs for each phase to ensure the final project was cohesive. The adaptability of our team meant we could support this approach by delivering our products in stages, ensuring the contractor had the necessary materials to maintain the project's schedule, quality and design ambitions.

As recognition of the impact of the Rochdale Town Hall project, Wright Landscapes were awarded the prestigious Hard Landscaping Construction (Non-Domestic) - Over £500K award at the BALI (British Association of Landscape Industries) Awards in 2024. This accolade is testament to the exceptional quality and dedication that went into the project.
