Product sustainability

We’re making it easier for our customers to find lower-carbon solutions, through data transparency and improved product mixes. This is in addition to the changes we’re making to our operations.

Transparency with carbon data

We understand the importance of our customers understanding the full sustainability credentials of our products. That’s why the majority of our core product ranges are covered by our Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). EPDs are detailed, independently verified documents that report a wide range of environmental impacts associated with a product. In our EPDs we include details such as component materials and energy used in manufacturing in a consistent format, making it easier to draw comparisons between different products. This ensures that our customers can make informed decisions about the products they use for their projects.

Lower-carbon products

In recent years, our materials experts have focused on developing and testing materials with a lower carbon footprint, without compromising on functionality or aesthetics. We now have unique product mixes which are being used in our best-selling concrete landscaping ranges, which is a win for us and for our customers. We have ambitious plans to roll these out to more products in the future.

National network

With a national network, our products offer a solution for customers looking to minimise their environmental impact. By making over 99.5% of our ranges in Britain, we’re ensuring that they’re travelling less miles to reach their destination.

Manufactured at a site which exclusively uses clean electricity sourced from solar, hydro or wind power (or a combination of all three).

Stone or concrete products can be completely recycled at the end of their lives. In this case, end-of-life recycling is most commonly crushing them for use as sub-base aggregate or component materials.

Any plastic elements are manufactured from recycled plastic, diverting it from landfills and preventing more plastic from entering the waste stream.

Packaging has been removed as much as possible, so there’s less waste to deal with on-site, though some packaging may remain for product information and health and safety reasons.

Helps to manage surface water in terms of either attenuation, conveyance or infiltration, providing hydraulic engineers and landscape architects the tools they need to reduce flood risk.

Manufactured at a works which either recycles water in the cutting or pressing process or uses harvested rainwater during its manufacture. These initiatives reduce pressure on mains water supplies and create resilience in water-scarce areas.

In traditional concrete, cement is the most carbon-heavy material in its composition, accounting for up to 50% of a product's "cradle to gate" emissions. Replacing as much cement as possible with an alternative binder material reduces the carbon impact of a product.

Secondary materials are by-products of another process - offcuts of natural stone, for example, or ash from a furnace. These aren’t "recycled" because they've never been used before but they would otherwise go to landfill.

Marshalls products that support climate resilience

We deliver systems and solutions, with a commitment to carbon leadership and materials innovation. With a national network that supports climate resilience, our products provide a solution for customers seeking to reduce their environmental impact. Our EPDs cover the majority of the Marshalls core product range, giving our customers comparable information on sustainability performance.

So whether it’s our integrated solar roofing systems, our innovative raingarden kerbs or our water management and drainage systems, we provide solutions that contribute to more resilient built environment.
