Paddy Moyna’s journey into construction started almost by accident. Growing up in Margate, he never intended to work in the industry. His original ambition was to pursue business and finance, but after his father sadly passed away, Paddy needed to move house and found himself venturing into the world of bricklaying, having qualified as a school leaver. But in 1992, during a difficult recession, jobs were scarce for bricklayers, so he began working alongside a neighbour in fencing – an experience that laid the foundations for a career spanning more than three decades.
In 1994, Paddy moved to London, where he continued to build his experience across paving and hard landscaping. And by 2002, having developed a strong reputation for quality workmanship and reliability, he became self-employed and established his own business in Kent. At its peak, Paddy managed a team of six people, delivering a wide range of domestic landscaping and driveway projects.
Throughout his career, Paddy earned recognition for his craftsmanship, including winning two Marshalls awards for driveway transformations in 2012 and 2019. His work became known not only for its finish, but for the pride and attention to detail he brought to every project. He also developed a deep understanding of materials and traditional building techniques, believing it is essential to know how and why materials perform the way they do.
After years running his own business, Paddy began thinking about the future of the trade and the importance of passing on practical skills to the next generation. In 2026, he decided to make the move into training and assessment. The role immediately appealed to him because it combined his passion for the industry with his desire to mentor others and share the knowledge he had built over a lifetime in construction.
Paddy is particularly passionate about preserving traditional building skills while helping learners adapt to modern methods and equipment. He enjoys teaching the small details that make a big difference on site – from understanding angles and layouts to finding quicker, smarter ways to complete work without compromising quality.
What Paddy enjoys most about the industry is its variety. No two days are ever the same, and he thrives on working with different people, personalities and challenges. He believes attitude and enthusiasm are just as important as technical ability, and he takes pride in creating a positive environment that helps diffuse negativity and encourages people to perform at their best.
Today, living in the beautiful town of Gunnislake, Cornwall, Paddy brings decades of hands-on experience, industry knowledge and practical insight into his role, helping shape and inspire the next generation of skilled tradespeople.
