When it comes to driveways, patios and outdoor spaces, Ray Stephenson understands exactly what matters to homeowners – quality workmanship, trusted advice and installations built to last.
With more than 40 years’ experience in landscaping and paving, Ray has spent his career helping transform outdoor spaces across the UK – from driveways and patios to landmark projects such as the Channel Tunnel, GCHQ and Disneyland Paris, his passion has always remained firmly rooted in the domestic market and helping homeowners create outdoor spaces they can enjoy for years to come.
Based in South Cambridgeshire, Ray started working in the industry at a young age alongside his brother in the block paving trade. From early mornings on site to learning the importance of craftsmanship and customer service, he developed a hands-on understanding of what separates a good installation from a great one.
Ray later went on to run his own successful domestic landscaping business for more than 12 years, working directly with homeowners on everything from driveways and patios to complete garden transformations. This experience gave him invaluable insight into the expectations homeowners have when investing in their property – from trust and communication through to attention to detail and long-term durability.
Throughout his career, Ray has become known for his honest, practical approach and commitment to maintaining the highest standards in domestic landscaping. His reputation led to him becoming an approved contractor with Marshalls in 1999, before moving into assessment roles where he spent more than a decade reviewing installation quality and judging industry awards across the South East.
Rejoining Marshalls in 2025 as Regional Assessor, Ray now works closely with installers and homeowners alike, helping ensure every project meets the standards expected from a Marshalls installation. His deep understanding of domestic projects means he knows exactly what homeowners value most – reliability, professionalism and a finished result they can be proud of.
Passionate about sharing his knowledge, Ray has also spent time mentoring younger installers and speaking at colleges and industry events, helping raise standards across the landscaping industry for the next generation.
Today, Ray continues to champion quality domestic installations and believes great outdoor spaces are built on experience, trust and doing the job properly the first time. For 2026, Ray has been appointed as a judge at the industry’s most prestigious awards – The National Landscape Awards, run by BALI (British Association of Landscape Industries).
