Before joining Marshalls, Matt served as Chief Operating Officer at Genuit Group plc; prior to this, he held Managing Director positions for British Gypsum, part of the Saint-Gobain group and AkzoNobel, UK & Ireland. Matt’s early career involved commercial leadership roles in the UK and Europe with notable companies including Bernard Matthews, Rank Hovis McDougal, Kraft and J&J. (He is also a Trustee of CRASH, the construction industry charity that supports homelessness and hospice charities with vital construction projects.)

Matt has taken over from Martyn Coffey, who has been Chief Executive of Marshalls since 2013.

Matt said, "I’m excited to have joined Marshalls, a business with a great heritage, strong reputation and market leading brands and products. I feel privileged to have the opportunity to build on that heritage and Martyn's significant achievements.

I joined the business in a transitional role at the start of the year; and I've been visiting our sites up and down the country and spending time with our people to listen to what’s important to them. I’ve also been developing a real sense of the value our brands, products and solutions bring to customers, including how we’re helping them to create a more sustainable built environment."

Of his decade at Marshalls, Martyn Coffey, said, "Leading Marshalls for 10 years has been the greatest privilege and pleasure of my professional life. To have grown the company with its amazing people to the position it is in today, has been an exciting and rewarding adventure. I am proud of the role that my exceptional team has played in contributing to the UK construction sector and I know that Matt inherits a strong team and a business that is ready to resume growth when markets improve."
