Head of Sustainability
Mike Edwards is the Head of Sustainability for Marshalls plc, where he leads the business's sustainability strategy while helping ensure environmental ambitions translate into practical, measurable improvements across the organisation. Working closely with product development, operations and commercial teams, his team are responsible for everything from carbon reporting and reduction to helping customers understand the sustainability performance of products and materials through Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs).
Having spent 28 years with Marshalls, Mike has built a depth of knowledge and skills that underpin his approach to sustainability. Before taking on his current role, he spent eight years as Head of Technical and Materials Development, following earlier roles in technical design and commercial functions. With a background in civil engineering and extensive experience in materials, manufacturing and product development, he understands how technical performance, commercial realities and environmental objectives must work together to deliver successful outcomes.
A key part of Mike's role is ensuring Marshalls continues to lead the industry in transparent and robust sustainability reporting. He oversees the measurement and reporting of carbon emissions across the business, including Scope 1, 2 & 3 emissions, using detailed data to identify and drive forward opportunities for improvement to support Marshalls' Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) commitments. He also has oversight of all capital investment projects to ensure environmental impacts are accounted for alongside operational and commercial priorities.
Mike believes sustainability should enable better decision-making rather than create barriers. Recognising that contractors, specifiers and manufacturers all face competing priorities, he takes a pragmatic approach that balances environmental performance with buildability, commercial viability and customer needs. By combining decades of technical expertise with a practical understanding of the construction industry, he helps customers and colleagues identify realistic pathways to reducing carbon while delivering successful projects.
