We’re pleased to share that Marshalls has been named a European Climate Leader by the Financial Times for the fourth time. The list, created by the FT in partnership with Statista, recognises 600 companies from across Europe that are committed to tackling climate change and focuses primarily on companies that have achieved the largest reductions in range 1 and 2 GHG emission strength over a five-year period between 2018 and 2023.

Allan Sandilands, Sustainability Manager at Marshalls, said:

"Being named a Climate Leader again shows we’re on the right track, and demonstrates our commitment to reducing carbon emissions. This recognition reflects the progress we’ve made and our dedication to carbon leadership, which is central to our Group strategy and supported by strong governance.”

Further progress with real-time emissions reporting

Whilst this recognition highlights our progress, we know there’s more to do. To deepen our understanding of our carbon emissions and keep driving progress, we’re now using a more advanced approach to data management and reporting across the full Marshalls Group.

With the help of IBM’s Envizi platform, we’re gaining a more granular, real-time analysis of our carbon emissions. The platform streamlines how we collect and analyse data, helping us to track progress, identify new opportunities to reduce our environmental impact, and make faster and more informed decisions. It also gives our customers and stakeholders more transparency and reassurance as we work toward our validated science-based target of reaching net-zero by 2050 for all emission scopes.

This data-driven approach supports everything we’re doing to lower carbon in our operations and products and will ultimately help our customers reduce their carbon footprints. Looking ahead, we’ve got some exciting initiatives in the pipeline to support our journey to net-zero, like adding more solar panels at our sites, swapping out more diesel forklifts for electric and LPG-powered models, and looking into cleaner fuel options for our quarrying equipment and heavy vehicles. We’re also pushing ahead with material innovation to reduce embodied carbon and growing our collection of transparent Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) to make it easier for customers to make low-carbon choices.

Allan added:

"Having access to more accurate, timely carbon data is a real step forward for Marshalls. Our new approach gives us the visibility to see where we need to focus in greater depth, and how each change we make affects our overall carbon footprint. It’s not just about tracking carbon - it’s about making more informed decisions, much faster, and reporting that progress in a robust way.”

David Hewitt, IBM Automation Platform Leader, UKI commented:

“At IBM, we believe that data is fundamental to driving both innovation and sustainability. We’re pleased to see Marshalls adopting this mindset by embedding data-driven decision making into their strategy to manage emissions through the implementation of the Envizi Suite. This technology has supported organisations in navigating the complexities of sustainability data for over a decade. We look forward to leveraging it to help Marshalls gain the insights they need to meet their emissions reduction goals.”
